Operating Instructions for Fuse Links of Removable Zinc Oxide Surge Arresters
1. General Description
This fuse link is a dedicated protective component for removable (drop-out type) zinc oxide surge arresters. It provides thermal and overcurrent protection for the arrester. When the arrester ages, deteriorates, or suffers thermal runaway, the fuse will blow quickly to disconnect the faulty arrester from the system, preventing fire, explosion, pole breakdown or power outage accidents.
2. Selection Rules
Use original dedicated fuse links matched to the arrester model and voltage level.
Strictly use the specified rated current; do not replace with ordinary high-voltage fuse wires or fuses of larger current.
Do not use fuses of different specifications or types in combination.
3. Installation Instructions
Installation and replacement must be performed under complete power-off conditions by qualified electricians.
Install the fuse link into the fuse tube or disconnecting mechanism correctly, ensuring reliable compression and good electrical contact.
Avoid twisting, pulling or damaging the fuse element during installation.
After installation, confirm that the arrester can be properly seated and locked in the operating position.
4. Operating Principle
Under normal working conditions, the fuse conducts current normally without affecting the protective function of the arrester.
When the arrester is faulty and causes continuous overheating or leakage current abnormality, the fuse will melt rapidly.
After fusing, the arrester module will drop visibly, clearly indicating a fault state.
5. Replacement Instructions
After the fuse is blown, do not replace it blindly before checking the condition of the arrester.
Check whether the arrester has breakdown, carbonization, cracking or other faults; replace the faulty arrester if necessary.
Use a fuse link of the same model and rated current for replacement.
Do not reuse blown fuses or use makeshift wires.
After replacement, reset the arrester correctly and confirm reliable contact.
6. Safety Precautions
Prohibit live replacement, short-circuiting the fuse, or removing the fuse to force the arrester into operation.
Do not use in environments with severe corrosion, high humidity or serious pollution without proper protection.
Store in a dry, ventilated place away from moisture and heat sources.
If frequent fuse blowing occurs, stop operation immediately and inspect the power system and arrester insulation.
